The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect, located right in the heart of the city and close to many tourist attractions. This made my travels very easy and allowed me to make the most of my stay in Lille.
The hotel staff were also very friendly and welcoming. They were very helpful in answering all my questions and giving me advice on where to go and what to do in the city. It made my stay even more enjoyable and made me feel at home.
As for the breakfast, I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality and variety of food on offer. There was a wide choice of hot and cold dishes, as well as fresh fruit and delicious pastries. I really appreciated being able to start my day with such a delicious and filling breakfast.

However, there is one negative point that I noticed while booking on Booking.com. Indeed, it was not possible to book a double room for one person, which led to confusion during billing. In the end, I was billed for three breakfasts and three resort taxes when I only needed a single room.
I think this error is due to Booking.com and not to the Mercure Lille Center Grand Place hotel. Despite this, I find it a shame as it resulted in confusion and a higher than expected bill. The room (standard) corresponded to the description and was very correct, clean, comfortable, a small armchair appreciated for watching TV, a huge bed with an excellent mattress. The breakfast offered is plentiful and very varied. We also benefited from a small balcony overlooking the Belfry.
-the shower room a little narrow but we do not live there.

At breakfast we even have the right to homemade cakes! A good place to stay for work or leisure (there are plenty of restaurants around)
Edit after my 2nd visit: in winter this time… I confirm my opinion with a caveat! The temperature in the room… it's way too hot. I had to turn off the radiator and open the window! Too bad right now. I think the heater is optional and should only be turned on when requested by the customer or by the customer.

-The air conditioning is very noisy without being able to cool the room which is exposed to the sun for a very large part of the day. A report to the reception did not change anything (no conclusive intervention, nor a proposal to make another room available). Sleeping with the window open at night is necessary but taking the risk of being devoured by mosquitoes.

-Badly arranged room, difficult to move between the bed and the bathroom. Pillows too small for sleeping and therefore not great for the cervical when waking up!
Hygiene products left at our disposal really limited in terms of quality, smell not pleasant at all and bath towels with a funny smell..
For a 4 star there are things to review in my opinion given the price …

-Room less good than first stay, we were very hot, and had trouble cooling it (air conditioning?): we had to sleep with the window open; Bathroom / wc very small, little shower pressure, probably because 5th floor at the end of the corridor. When we went back up after breakfast, surprise!!!, the door of our room was wide open, despite the panel put on the handle, and the maid (admittedly nice) was cleaning up our belongings and handbags...we kindly waited in the hallway...nothing serious, of course, but surprising given the setting and the number of stars displayed.
